Ilina Abadzhieva

web | Transpersonal psychology. Sacred sexuality

The book "Sacred Sexuality" enters skillfully, fascinatingly and with an impressive dose of scientific and practical knowledge in the sphere of human psychology and the deep processes, which determine the dynamic development of the individual consciousness. By illustrating the complex mechanisms and interrelations between the cognitive - mental, energy - emotional and biochemical and physiological-material components, which compose the human consciousness, Baev depicts one very wide psychological and spiritual cartography of the human relationships and experiences. His work is basically focused on the most creative and most powerful momentum in human life, and namely, the sexual charge, or, as the author calls it: "the link, the power, which sets the processes in the microcosmos (a human being) and in the macrocosmos (the surrounding world and his/her subsistence environment) going". Baev examines the man and his/her physical, mental, spiritual and emotional structure as a direct reverberation or а cause-and-effect correlate of the macrocosmos - nature, planet, cosmos and physical laws, which regulate and manage him/her. By using the methods of the contemporary scientific language and approach, which he calls Transpersonal Psychology (TPP), Baev makes available for the contemporary reader not only the world of scientific-medical explanations and achievements in the sphere of sexology, cognitive and behavioral psychology and psychotherapy, but he also manages to introduce us to the rich palette of the world spiritual doctrines, tendencies and practices; philosophical, theological and theosophical schools and systems, revealing unexpected resources of theoretical and practical knowledge and abilities for self-cognition and self-development, which come to us from ancient times, cultures, texts and context.

In this connection, with a view to one semantic precision and also with raised sensitivity to the more informed reader, two things have to be mentioned: 1.Orlin Baev tendentiously includes and unites under the term "transpersonal psychology" many of the above mentioned spiritual sciences and practices, which, basically, are philosophical-existential and ethical-religious symbolic systems of the human cognition, as well as calls their authors or founders with the byword in his jargon "transpersonal psychologists". Of course, exactly this is the innovation of his integral approach to the matter of man’s mental-spiritual life and of the maxims that guide and regulate him/her at a psycho-physical level. Baev debates from the position of a well-informed intellectual and as a good psychologist has examined personally and seriously and tested on him and on mental and psycho-emotional and physical level the steps, road and results from the above mentioned methods and practices. From this position "great World Teachers" like Peter Danov,Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, esoteric authors- thinkers like Elena Blavatska, spiritual leaders like Michail Ivanov, Dao yogis and teachers like Mantak Chia and world east Indian philosophers like Aurobindo are united under one common index and are considered as the most genial and perceptive representatives of the transpersonal psychology. Of course, these developed minds-humanists and enlighteners of the world spiritual scene have as an exclusive object of investigation the man and his/her nature, soul, mind and consciousness, and their achievements, that have endured the time test, come into the contemporary science, only now, as priceless resources for its development, both in the field of psychology and in the new tendencies and investigations of the quantum physics, mechanics, in the traditional western medicine, etc. In addition, it has to be taken into account that the sources of this newly-developed science or new scientific approach are, in themselves, complete finished systems of spiritual-moral and mental growth and originate from the ocean or "Akasha" of the human Spiritual Knowledge or Self-consciousness. 2.The remarks of the author with regard to the warning that the presented in the book practical exercises and methods shall be always and inevitably watched and controlled by an experienced therapist, who must be acquainted and initiated theoretically and practically in the above mentioned techniques, because they (especially the described techniques for sexual sublimation and transformation of the Dao Yoga) are accompanied by biochemical and energy changes, secretion of substances in the brain and the organism, which cause various psychogenic reactions and the releasing of an enormous quantity of energy, which affects the reactions, the emotional and mental condition of a man, his/her behavior and cognitive development, are of extreme importance and significance.

The book of Baev has exceptionally high cognitive significance and practical application from the point of view of the concrete analysis of socially disintegrating phenomena like drug addiction and the different forms of ill addictions, connected not only with the ignorance and usage of harmful for the brain stimulants, opiates and other substances, which lead to unnatural reactions, energy overconsumption and inadequate behavior, as well as to uncontrollable addiction related to the wrongful usage of the sexual energy - the driving power of the whole inner piece and outer manifestation of a man in the society. Baev explains, in an open and clear way, the principles of work of the biochemical processes in the brain during and as a result of the physical and bioenergy stimulation during the so called "normal" or unconscious sex, passing at the level of instincts, and shows the quality of its resultative orgasm from the point of view of the subsequent psycho-emotional sensations as one biochemically generated addiction. This addiction is very similar, as a psycho-physical phenomenon and psycho-emotional process, to the development of drug addiction (including a variety of pharmacological stimulants, opiates, etc. with the same or similar effects).

The proposed by Baev integral picture of the human "sexuality", which culminates into the so called by him: "Fusion in sublimation", covers not only biological, but also this, what the Spiritual Sciences would call "transcendental" components of the spiritual experience. Its considering as a basic creative spiritual potential and driving power of the overall human development through the prism of TPP, suggests one very wide platform for investigation of the "homo sapiens" not only from the point of view of psychology, but it also turns the attention of the contemporary science to one New Age of the overall human knowledge, dealing with the deeper sense of the human life, and namely - the achieving of a complete synchronicity, balance, harmony and nirvana - identification between the outer manifestation of the small, subjective "self" (atman) and the inner, the big "Self" (Atman) - the holy beginning or a sparkle, innate for all living beings, for each of us.
